Development of Protestantism

History
Most Protestant denominations started during the Reformation in Europe. The Reformation began in 1517 when Martin Luther began to publicly protested some practices of the Catholic Church such as the sale of indulgences. He posted the 95 Theses, which condemned the Church and proclaimed what he thought it meant to be a true Christian. The Church and the Pope were very angry at this,so he was sentenced to death, but he escaped and hid before they could mete out the judgment.By this time, many people had read the 95 Theses and agreed with Luther and agreed to break away from the Catholic Church and form their own church where they could freely practice their religion. This developed into Lutheranism.Soon many other forms of Protestantism had arisen such as Calvinism and Anglicanism.
